Sugartree and Salt Fork Marinas are operated by Atwood Lake Boats.
Atwood Lake Boats was founded in 1963 by Gary K. Spahr and is the longest running concessionaire with the State of Ohio, starting with the West Branch State Park Marina in 1970. We began operations at Salt Fork Marina in 1975 and then opened Sugartree Marina in1980. Atwood Lake Boats has also operated the marinas at Grand Lake St. Mary’s, Deer Creek State Park, and Seneca Lake. Atwood Lake Boats was purchased in 2000 from the Spahrs by the General Manager, Brian Valot and his wife Chris.
With Atwood Lake Boats being the largest pontoon dealer in the State of Ohio it enables us to be able to provide the highest quality rental boat fleet with the most affordable pricing of any of the major State Park marinas in the State.
Our service and customer satisfaction is second to none. This is due to our constant employee training and education. Our manager, Barry Willms, has been with us for 19 years. He has been an avid boater his entire life and has attended every Ohio Division of Watercraft Confluence for training each year, from 1995-2007. In 1999 Barry received the State of Ohio Division of Watercraft Education Award for outstanding individual achievement in boating safety education.
We feel our employees are our most important asset. Over the years we have employed hundreds of area high school and college students many of whom continued on to be teachers, pharmacists, police officers, nurses, probation officers, physical therapists, deputy sheriffs, physician assistants, military officers, real estate agents, water treatment plant superintendent, chiropractors, Guernsey County Sheriff, and even Guernsey County’s only neurosurgeon.
